Bringing Hope and Home Together
Providing a Shelter for Those in Need for Over 35 years
Welcome to OZANAM CENTER
Welcome to OZANAM CENTER, the leading shelter in the area. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency housing assistance to individuals and families in need. Our six-acre site, located on the property of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville, has a maximum capacity of 200 people and is here to serve the community of Cameron County.
At OZANAM CENTER, we are committed to helping those in need. We are guided by the mission of Bishop Enrique San Pedro, OZANAM CENTER, INC. to provide assistance to those in need through a cooperative service. We strive to create a safe and secure environment while helping build a better future for our clients.

We are grateful for the support of United Way, The City of Brownsville, the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville, Community Agencies, State and Federal Entities, as well as private foundations, volunteers, and the community in general. Thanks to their generosity, we are able to provide much-needed services to those in need and help create a better future for our clients.
Food Pantry Service
The Ozanam center’s Food Pantry provides emergency food and weekly food pantry distribution to the under-income residents of Cameron County. Each pantry bag averages a cost of $41.00 and consists mainly of staples and non-perishable items. Perishable items are immediately distributed to the community.
The Ozanam Center has been a real lifesaver for me. Without their assistance, I don’t know where I would be today. They helped me get an apartment through their Rapid Rehousing Program, which gave me a chance to get back on my feet.
I am very grateful for the Ozanam Center for their weekly community food pantry. Their efforts in providing nutritious meals to those in need are a great example of a charitable organization making a positive impact in the community.
The Ozanam Center was a much needed- life line for me. The staff and volunteers were incredibly kind and supportive, and their help in providing a safe and warm place to sleep, along with hot meals, made all the difference in helping me get back on my feet.
As a volunteer in the kitchen of the Ozanam Center, I was deeply impressed by the level of organization and care that was taken to ensure every resident received a healthy and nutritious meal. The appreciation and gratitude expressed by the residents towards the shelter’s staff and volunteers was a testament to the positive impact this shelter is making in the lives of those it serves.
